Every year thousands of people from around the world come to visit Reston, the New Town urban experiment that Robert E. Simon, Jr. ignited in the midst of Virginia farm country in 1961. The Nature of Reston will provide these visitors with an additional insight to appreciate the treasures hidden in Reston’s natural neighborhoods.

About the Authors:

For the past two years, Chuck Veatch, a 35 year Restonian, has been exploring the lakes, meadows, streams and woods in and around Reston. He has captured through his camera lens the extraordinary splendor of our natural habitats. Chuck, owner of the Reston based Charles A Veatch Company, was a member of Reston’s original sales staff. From the day Reston opened to the present, Chuck has been an active participant in the creation and growth of the community. In 1998 his many years of community service were acknowledged when he was named a recipient of the prestigious "Best of Reston" Award for Outstanding Community Service. An avid photographer and fly fisherman, he has photographed some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in North America. He is a four time winner of the Photographer of the Year designations from the Northern Virginia Photographic Society. Chuck is on the board of the Reston Historic Trust for Community Revitalization and the Reston Association Community Wildlife Habitat Team.
