Tephra Institute of Contemporary Art

In the 1960s, Robert E. Simon, Jr. created and subsidized an art gallery on the first floor of Heron House at Lake Anne Plaza. When rent began to increase in 1974, the Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE) formed to keep the gallery open. In the 1980s, GRACE pursued opening open a gallery in the Bowman Distillery Warehouse. This ultimately did not come to pass and since the early 1990s, GRACE has been located at Reston Town Center. They organize the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival every year.  In 2021, GRACE rebranded becoming Tephra Institute of Contemporary Art.
